Mary has been singing since before she can remember. In fact she sang so much as a kid, there were rules in the house about where and when she was allowed to sing, for example this one that was repeated almost daily: "No singing at the dinner table!"
She has a Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice and spent her young adulthood working with composers and instrumentalists to create and perform modern classical music. She co-founded the No Noise Reduction concert series, presenting concerts in DC and New York for many years. She has performed all kinds of repertoire, from 14th century madrigals to 19th century opera, through jazz standards and folk songs, and all the way to the craziest of modern classical music and performance art.
These days, she's a little more chill. She mostly performs with her very fun band, The Ukuladies, or doing solo shows like today, accompanying herself on the baritone ukulele, which has a surprisingly sweet and mellow timbre. She’ll be singing her favorite mixture of songs which lean vaguely toward the jazz/folk end of the musical spectrum, and blend comedy, kindness, and hopefulness with just a little bit of snark for good measure. Her main focus in music and life is to have everything she does illuminate the beauty of humanity and this world, and move us toward peace and love.
