Join us for a delightful afternoon of live music with two Gatehouse favorites, John Potocnik and Kathy Shimberg!

John brings decades of experience in old-time music, from playing contra dances across the region to performing everywhere from street corners to concert halls. A graduate of the American Folk Culture Program in Cooperstown, he’s also a lifelong Appalachian mountain dulcimer player and builder, and co-founded the Catskill Puppet Theater, which toured internationally for over 40 years.

Kathy is a lifelong musician with a deep love for old-time rural American and traditional Irish music. She has played for contra and square dances for many years, both locally and beyond. A graduate of the Cooperstown Program in American Folklife Studies, she’s especially passionate about community tradition, regional musical styles, and the joy of learning and playing together.
